St. John’s Cathedral recently concluded their participation in the 2016 Operation Christmas Child outreach. Operation Christmas Child is a project of the international relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse. Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. A church or organization partners with Samaritan’s Purse by building a shoebox size gift package.

These simple gifts are then shipped outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. Local ministry partners then distribute the shoebox gifts to children in their communities in an attempt to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way through each shoebox gift. This year the Cathedral collected 28 shoebox gifts from adult and children. We want to thank each of them for their participation in the Operation Christmas Child shoebox outreach ministry. We understand that these gifts, along with others from our community, will allow God’s love and hope to be shared with children in six (6) different African countries.
